Consul General of Poland Jan Granat Awarded Doctor Honoris Causa of Karazin University
In his congratulatory speech University President Vil Bakirov thanked Mr. Granat for the years of fruitful cooperation, contribution to the University development, promotion of its authority, international image and reputation, "I have not only known but also taken to Mr. Granat as an extremely intelligent, experienced, sensible and dignified person. He has played an important role in developing relations between Kharkiv and Poland, particularly between Kharkiv higher school and universities and the academic community of Poland. Karazin University has chosen Polish workers of science and culture to be its Honorary Doctors on numerous occasions. And I'm very pleased that today this list has been extended to include another outstanding personality.
Mr. Bakirov also pointed out that it was Jan Granat who contributed to the initaition of about ten conferences, scientific workshops, symposia, a series of exhibitions, organization of visits of many polish workers of culture, science, politicians. Likewise, Jan Granat has been comprehensively promoted development of the Ukrainian-Polish Academic Center for Science and Research. All in all, over the period of Mr. Granat' term as Consul General of Poland the University signed ten cooperation agreements with universities and scientific institutions of Poland.
In his turn, Mr. Granat expressed his gratitude for the acknowledgement and the award, "It is a great privilege for me to be Doctor Honoris Causa of one of the oldest universities of Ukraine that has significant achievements and fruitful history of research, known throughout the world. During the four years in office of Consul the University provided me with an opportunity to get tot know a great number of wonderful people devoted to science. I tried to continue my predecessors` contribution and I am convinced that my successor will multiply these achievements. As Honorary Doctor of the University I will do my best to keep glorifying its name in Poland, promote its international image and develop cooperation with Polish universities."
Moreover, Consul of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv Halina Granat also received a special commendation for supporting and promoting development of Ukrainian-Polish relations and a considerable personal contribution to comprehensive cooperation between the University and the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv.
For reference. The title of Doctor Honoris Causa of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University is the highest scientific title at Karazin University awarded to distinguished national and foreign scientists, workers of science, education, culture, and art, public figures.
